Make Me Over, Sissie

Allow me to introduce to you my sister, Nikka, a 28year old doctor working in Makati. She's very simple, private and boyish, as you can probably tell in her before photo below.

Nikka doesn't like wearing makeup, though if she ever would, it'd only be blush, lipbalm, and lipstick. However, when and if there's a special occasion that requires her to look a bit more polished, she always runs to me to give her a makeover. I've done her makeup several times in the past, for induction balls, graduation, weddings, etc. and every time her friends see her all made up, she's always asked where she had her makeup done. Of course, she feels happy with all the compliments that she gets, and I do, too, considering that I'm not a pro-MUA. Maybe someday.

Since my sister is attending a friend's wedding in Bulacan this afternoon, she asked me if I can prettify her for the event. I happily obliged, of course, though my sister can be a pain in the neck every time I do her makeup (she cries every time I put something on her eyes which explains why I didn't bother curling her lashes). Besides, would I ever decline an offer to give someone a makeover? Hell no! I love doing other people's makeup! I'm getting so tired of putting makeup on myself. Anyway, since my sister doesn't really like wearing makeup (and the feel of makeup on her skin), she requested for something simple, something not scandalous (using my sister's terms). Well, I really wasn't thinking of doing something dramatic or dark for a wedding, anyway. So I did a fresh, neutral eye makeup, with a pop of color on her lower lashline :)

Once a Bridesmaid, Always a Bridesmaid

Hi everyone! 2010 is just a few more shut eyes ahead and I'm excited and thrilled about what next year has to offer us. 2009 was fairly okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either. It was, so-so. Just like everyone else, I had my own share of unpleasant circumstances which served as eye openers and gem stones I know I will forever cherish. Yes, I am thankful for these unfortunate events just as well because of the things that these have taught me. With all that has happened this past 363days, I know I have emerged a much stronger, wiser and more mature woman. Bright hopes for 2010!

Onto something else.

A month ago, my friend Ynez asked me if I can do her hair and makeup for a wedding that she will be attending on the 28th. Well, that big day was yesterday.

Apart from shopping for foundations and other stuff for the last couple of weeks, I had no other preparation for my date with Ynez yesterday. I did not brainstorm on hairstyles that could work on her hair and face. I did not look at and study updo's or anything. I didn't think about how I'd be making her over. My reason? I was clueless. The last time I did someone's makeup for a wedding was... 5years ago? Well, I did the bride's makeup then; Ynez is just the maid of honor (she'll be a bride in August!). But even then, I still had no clue what to do her for her eye makeup.

A few days before the wedding, I asked Ynez what the motif of the wedding is and when she said it was orange, I told myself, "I'm not going to match her eye makeup to her gown;" and I didn't. I wish you could see her eye makeup better. Sadly, the colors don't show up well. I should've taken her photos under natural light not under florescent light. Oh well.

Trivia: Ynez is actually 28, but she looks so much like a kid.

My 18y/o old cousin who usually sleeps over at my place is attending a debut at Trader's Hotel at Roxas Boulevard right now. Her dress was sewn by her mom (her mom's a fashion designer); her hair and make up, were done by none else, but her very loving cousin, me.
