Product Review: All Organics Lemongrass Facial Toner

Hi everyone! I don’t know how long it has been since I last wrote a review on a product and boy do I still have tons of products waiting in queue. I’m going to try my best to devote some time to write about these products though I won’t be able to promise since I’m just always swamped with so much to do. My hands are full with work and some other important stuff that need my full attention; add to that baby sitting my two cousins aged 3 and 1.5, who have been staying with my family since May.

Anyway, this post is going to be about a toner made by All Organics, a homegrown health and wellness company that provides its clients with the purest organic products that can be found in our market today. Owned and founded by Ms. Edilee Omoyon in 2007, the company boasts of organic soaps, scrubs, wellness oils, moisturizers, balms, hair products and even the much raved about mineral makeup.

Since All Organics is a fairly new company, I decided to “interview” Ms. Edilee via email to enlighten everyone about this company and the products that they produce.

1. What made you decide to start your own line of organic skin care products?

My son contacted skin asthma when he was 5 years old. We went from one dermatologist to another. I got worried, because the lesions were getting worse, and my son was developing inferiority complex because of what he has on his legs. He was the only prep and grade one on pants! The lesions will heal for two weeks, and then go back again. Each time, he was given a stronger antidote. Until, the doctor said he has to be given steroids. I was very much against it, but he had to go through it. Then, I told myself I will take it upon myself to help my son.

I experimented with different plant oils - luckily, I know how to source them! I was an executive of a big cosmetic industry for 14 years, and that helped. While experimenting, I also tried making natural soaps - ang mahal kasi ng soaps for persons with skin asthma! Then, I made natural lotions, etc.

I was able to see considerable results with a formulation I prepared for him, and from then on, we never went back to the dermatologist anymore.

His legs have been clear for the past 8 months; he gets small break-outs, but once I rub the oil on him, it will slowly disappear. We now call it Itcho's Oil.

Itcho is now 7 years old.

2. When was All Organics founded?

Two Christmases ago, I started giving out my hand-made products to friends, and they were the ones who prodded me to sell them commercially. I was able to exhibit my products for the first time at Mega Mall 1st quarter of 2008, and that started the business.

3. What does All Organics promise to give its clients?/What benefits do All Organics products claim to give?

The promise is real natural and organic products. others would claim natural or organic, but the base used contains ingredients you wouldn't dream touching your skin. Other makers buy lotion base, hand sanitizer base or body scrub base from big manufacturers selling them cheap (so of course the contents are cheap!), and the they'd add extracts or synthetic fragrance oils and call it organic! (eeeww!)

With All Organics, the user gets the full benefit of the plants, as well as takes part in helping farmer communities in the countryside.

With All Organics, you use products preserved using real, natural extracts plants. No parabens, no petroleum by-products, no lanolin, no SLES, etc., etc.

4. What makes All Organics hand processed soaps different from all the other organic soaps in the market?

All Organics soaps are made of real Virgin Coconut Oil! It cleanses, nourishes and refines skin texture naturally. We do not use cooking oils, mineral oils, bubble enhancers, or any toxic-building ingredients.

5. Where do you get the ingredients used in your products?

From all-over the world! lemongrass, citronella, lime are all local, planted and extracted by Filipinos. we get raw mats from Australia (some essential oils), France (some essential oils), US (mineral make-up and natural colorants), India (some extracts).

6. Are your products made in the Philippines or are they just packaged in the country?

We make them ourselves, here in the Phils. and test them on ourselves. I am a control freak, and if there is something I do not have control over the ingredients, I don't do it.

7. What are your best selling items?

Soaps, balms and oils, shampoos, lemongrass line, mineral make-ups

8. How do you market/advertise your products?

We invest on trade fairs and exhibits, we do internet marketing and word of mouth. I have dealers, distributors all over the Philippines.

9. With all the mineral makeup companies available to consumers, what made you decide to join the bandwagon and come up with your own?

I was frustrated with what I see on the labels. With my age, I am still prone to break-outs, and since I was using natural colorants, and I use the raw mats for mineral make-up on my other products, it became a natural course of action to take. I call my mineral make-up healing, because it does heal acne, reduce fine lines and nourish the skin.

10. What can we expect from All Organics in the future?
We are developing our real organic baby line. It should be out before the -ber months. We will also come out with more local herbs and fruits as our main ingredient.

Now onto the review. On the spotlight is on All Organics’ Lemongrass Facial Toner.

This product from All Organics is from their Lemongrass Personal Care Line which contains Lemongrass (tones, deodorizes. Great for oily and pimple prone skin), Guava (antiseptic; treats pimples), Witch hazel (astringent; relieves itchy and dry skin; absorbs excess oil) and Tea Tree (Active against all three varieties of infectious organisms: bacteria, fungi and viruses. Helps heal acne & athlete's foot. Properties include anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-viral, and others. Removes other skin blemishes). It is said to kill pimple causing bacteria, tighten pores and even out skin tone.

The packaging is a bit unusual as it comes in a spray bottle, but it’s not much of a big thing. In fact, I think it’s pretty good in controlling the amount of the product that you use. You simply have to shake the bottle first and spray some product on a cotton ball or pad until it’s moist enough to be used on the skin.

Product Blurb

Made of 100% natural ingredients, Lemongrass Facial Toner is made of pure plant waters from 4 skin-loving, skin-nurturing plants that control oil without leaving the skin dry. No alcohol, no water added, just pure plant extracts. The plant's high anti-bacterial properties help prevent pimples and aid in faster healing of outbreaks.

Store in the ref as a refreshing face cooler, use after washing to tone and refine skin texture.

What I like about it

  • It’s purely organic (I am a sucker for everything organic)
  • It’s affordable (it’s priced at Php 135 or $2.80)
  • It removes traces of makeup that have been left out by my facial wash and astringent (I only use an astringent in the evening). It gives me that thoroughly clean feeling but not too squeaky clean that the skin feels tight and stripped off of its natural moisture
  • It does not irritate nor does it sting my face
  • It refines my skin
  • It comes in a fairly big bottle (it comes in a 118ml bottle and it’s filled to the top)
  • It didn’t break me out

What I don’t like about it

  • The scent. My sister keeps calling it Lysol but I don’t think the scent is anywhere close to Lysol’s. I would have to agree with her however, that the scent is not something pleasant, not citrusy or flowery, but it’s not too strong for me to bother myself with. It has a rather moderate medicinal scent to it, something that could remind you of a day at a spa. I describe the scent as somewhat unpleasant simply because I would rather that my products be free of any scent that may irritate or bother my senses, but it’s not a pungent smell that would make anyone barf.

Would I repurchase?

I perhaps would. However, as of the moment, I do have other organic toners that I have yet to test once I’ve finished up this one from All Organics.
